Bio

Maurice James is a singer-songwriter from Chicago, IL whose music he describes as Cinematic Soul — a genre-bending blend of indie pop, soul, and atmospheric textures. The son of a Baptist pastor, Maurice grew up surrounded by music in a church sanctuary, spending hours with his inner voice and a piano. Out of those formative years, his expressive vocals and heartfelt lyricism took shape, giving life to a sound that feels both intimate and expansive.

In 2020, Maurice introduced his artistry with his piano-driven debut EP Rare View, showcasing a unique style that combined raw honesty with lush, soulful arrangements. He followed with Angels Exist, a track that revealed his ability to channel universally relatable emotions, and Ocean View, which transported listeners into an ethereal, dreamlike space.

Maurice’s latest release, True Star, may be his most personal yet — a love song originally written for and first performed at his wedding. It captures his gift for transforming deeply personal moments into music that resonates universally.

He believes that music holds the power to unite in times of discord and heal in times of struggle, and he carries that mission into every song he creates — making music for love, for light, and for connection.
